Description
What is Etoposide for?
Etoposide is a prescription medicine for the treatment of small cell carcinoma of the lung, acute monocytic and myelomonocytic leukaemia, Hodgkin’s disease, and Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma [1].
Etoposide is available as a concentrate for infusion solution (20 mg/mL).
How does Etoposide work?
Etoposide works by damaging DNA, which stops or changes how DNA is made in cells, leading to cell death. It mainly affects cells during specific stages of their growth cycle, particularly the G2 and late S phases. At high doses, it causes cells to break apart as they enter mitosis, while at lower doses, it stops cells from starting mitosis. The DNA damage it causes is closely linked to its effectiveness in killing cancer cells [1].
Where has Etoposide been approved?
Etoposide is widely approved, including in the USA, EU, and the UK.
